The Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce recently awarded Maggie Groat the Scott Bateman Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship seeks to recognize a civic minded Fort Payne High School Senior who exhibits community leadership and engagement. Scott Bateman was a member of the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce for many years and served on the Board of Directors for ten.

Scott was a mentor in the business community as well as his Church, Wills Valley Community Church. It was his desire to find the good in people and hoped everyone would be successful. He believed working together and participating in activities within your community would all contribute to better community. Scott would want the Chamber to encourage our youth to stay involved in the community. If you want to make a difference, find a way to do so.

So, wherever life takes you, please know that the community you live in will only be made better if you become involved in a positive way.

Kelly Koch Bateman helped present the Scott Bateman Memorial Scholarship on behalf of herself, her mother Vickie Bateman and brother Chris Bateman.
