After serving the citizens of Fort Payne as Director of the DeKalb County Aging Programs and the Alabama Hosiery Technology Center, Carol Beddingfield has become the seventh director of the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce.
Through her leadership, the DeKalb-Fort Payne Senior Center was created. The aging program grew from less than 10 employees to over 48. Senior citizens received various services including recreation, transportation, meals, and a free prescription drug program. A senior work program, “Seniors Sock It to You,” was developed to provide income to the senior workers as well as a service to the local hosiery industry.
As director of the Alabama Hosiery Technology and Research Center, training programs were created to enhance the skills of the employees in the hosiery industry. The programs were developed in accordance with the goal of the Center to keep the industry competitive in the world market.
“I look forward to being a part of the positive growth for the future of the City of Fort Payne. Guidance provided by the Chamber’s Board of Directors and its membership will broaden and improve our services to the community. The Chamber cannot stand alone in meeting its overall objective to be more active, more aggressive, and more responsive in promoting the City and our quality of life. After all, what an easy thing to sell – the beauty of our area and the goodness of our citizens.”
