Hurricane Harvey is proving to be one of the greatest natural disaster in history for the state of Texas.

This disaster will affect each and every one of us as the total cost continues to increase. Not to mention the strain on federal dollars as well as the cost of gasoline.

However, we must act now to help the people whose lives have been devastated by the storm.

I am providing one source of where you can donate needed items. The local Fort Payne First United Methodist Church is part of the United Methodist Committee on Relief Warehouse.

The Warehouse shipped an 18 wheeler load of cleaning buckets, health kits and birthing kits last Friday.

Additional items are greatly needed this week. If you would like to donate any of the following items to help in the cleanup process, contact Brother Ricky Smith at the First Methodist Church or call 253-341-9961.

Items needed:

-Black markers

-13 gallon tall garbage bags

-Leather gloves with cloth back

-Large black heavy duty garbage cans.

-Box fans ( To dry out houses following flooding)

-25 foot heavy duty 14 gauge extension cords (To move fans around inside home)

-2 gallon garden sprayers (To fight mildew and mold)

-Flat billed shovels (To remove mud, wet carpet, pads, sheet rock insulation, etc.

-Rakes with 3 inch tines (To remove tree limbs, leaves, and muck from inside homes and yards)

-Wheel barrows (2 wheels are preferred so they will not turn over after filling)

– Boxes rubber gloves

If you have ever experienced minor flooding in your home, know the urgency and what it takes to restore the home. The heat and moisture make a great incubator for mold and mildew.

These supplies are urgently needed! You might even find them on sale at local stores.
