Congratulations to First State Bank! This local bank is celebrating their 35th Anniversary.

According to bank President and CEO, David Henderson, “A group of local investors formed First State Bank of DeKalb County for the purpose of providing the city of Fort Payne and surrounding areas with true hometown banking services.”

The advantage of hometown banking is the fact that decisions are made by someone who lives and works in the area rather than by someone in another area.

The bank was chartered in 1981 and opened in Fort Payne at 500 Gault Avenue, South in May of 1982. A second branch at 2407 Gault Avenue, North was opened in 1995.  This location is now the main office.

Today there are 5 locations: two in Fort Payne, one in Rainsville, Henagar and Grant.

With the acquisition of First Bank of the South on July 1st, First State became the largest community bank founded in DeKalb County with assets totaling $175,000,000.

There are very few organizations in DeKalb County that has not received support from First State Bank either by donations or services. The employees’ involvement in the community is reflected by the number of organizations on which they serve.

The Board of Directors and employees believe that the bank’s best investments are in the areas where they are located.

Throughout the 35 years of growth and change for this Chamber member, First State Bank has remained true to its original purpose – to become a true hometown bank.

The bank is built on a firm foundation of being operated by local individuals who are invested in the bank and its purpose.

My business dealings with First State Bank has always been a positive experience in a friendly atmosphere with true concern for my needs.

It is reassuring to know that the individuals “handling my banking needs are fellow DeKalb natives!”

First State Bank will be the Chamber Member Spotlight at Third Saturday, May 13th from 5 – 9 PM in the City Park.

Inflatables for the kids, prizes, and refreshments will be available during the event hours.

I encourage you to stop by and congratulate the employees of First State Bank. After all, they are your neighbors!
